At the base of our apartment is a grand hawker center, with several small authentic Chinese food stalls along the edge of the building towards the MRT station. Morning and night these guys are busy chopping, slicing, mixing, steaming, frying, stewing, for hours, all in preparation for the lunch and dinner rush. The smells that permeate the air are incredible, there’s simply no way I will ever be able to manage a diet while living here.
