すばらしい知らせ。敬和バドミントン部の武下利一選手が、ニュージーランドで行われた国際大会で優勝した。昨年日本ランキングサーキット大会で優勝しているが、国際大会でのタイトルは初めて（だと思う）。第一シードを3回戦で破り、そのまま決勝まで勝ち上がった。

In the men’s singles it was Japan’s Riichi Takeshita who completed a successful event by beating the top seed in the third round, another seed in the quarterfinals and then the third seed in the semifinals. In the final he continued his good form by dispatching the fourth seed Wing Ki Wong(Hong Kong) in straight games in front of a large and noisy crowd. Wong who was finalist at the last tournament in New Zealand two years ago was defeated 21-19 21-19 and was never able to quite get through the tough counter attacking style of Takeshita.
武下君は、昨年の全英オープンで準優勝した田児賢一選手と同世代。今回のタイトルを契機に、さらなる飛躍を期待したい。
ちなみにこの大会の前、バドミントン部は佐渡で合宿をしており、松浦進二監督の下、過酷なトレーニングを行っており、写真を見ると武下君の姿も見える。この合宿の成果でもあった、とみるべきであろう。
